Participating in the Program

Landlords participate in the program by agreeing to rent to an eligible participant. Families usually contact the landlord or landlords may advertise their properties. Landlords are responsible for screening potential tenants, however, YMHA can provide previous tenant landlord information if it is requested. The property the participant selects is then inspected to make sure it complies with HUD’s Housing Quality Standards (HQS). When the unit passes inspection, YMHA executes a Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) Contract with the landlord agreeing to pay a portion of the tenant’s rent and the landlord and tenant sign a lease.
