Public Housing is a program funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Its purpose is to provide safe, clean and affordable housing for families and individuals. YMHA manages five family communities and six senior communities along with a few scattered sites throughout Mahoning County. Our communities are more than just buildings. We provide programs, services and activities for all residents.
Public Housing Pre-Applications are available online in English or Spanish. YMHA recommends interested applicants review the property guide online to determine which property may best suit the family. Once a pre-application is submitted, the applicant is placed on a Waiting List for that property. If you are unable to submit an application online, contact the property you are interested in residing at for further instructions on how to apply.

Public Housing Application Process
Individuals and families interested in residing at a YMHA property will need to complete a pre-application for placement on the property’s Waiting List. Before applying, applicants may check the estimated wait time for each property. Once an applicant reaches the top of the Waiting List, the applicant will be scheduled for a full application appointment at the property. Applicants will need to provide birth certificates, social security cards, asset and income information for all household members. YMHA will conduct a criminal background check and landlord references and families must declare citizenship status. Applicants will be notified by mail of the date and time of the scheduled application appointment.
Applicants who require special accommodations should contact the office in advance of the scheduled appointment to make alternate arrangements. All appointments are generally conducted in English unless otherwise requested.
