Become a Housing Choice Voucher Program Landlord

YMHA encourages individuals who own rental properties to participate in the Housing Choice Voucher Program. YMHA assists approximately 2,000 families who are eligible for the program and we are always seeking good landlords with good properties. The number of families we assist has increased over the past few years. The program provides a great opportunity to assist families by providing low-income families safe, decent and affordable housing.

Participating in the Program

Landlords participate in the program by agreeing to rent to an eligible participant. Families usually contact the landlord, or landlords may list their properties on YMHA's Vacancy List of Available Properties. Landlords are responsible for screening tenants, however, YMHA can provide previous tenant landlord information if it is requested. The property the participant selects is then inspected to make sure it complies with HUD's Housing Quality Standards (HQS). When the unit passes inspection, YMHA executes a Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) Contract with the landlord agreeing to pay a portion of the tenant's rent and the landlord and tenant sign a lease.

Benefits of Participating in the Program

  • Partner with the local Housing Authority to provide safe, decent and sanitary housing to low-income families
  • Annual inspection of assisted unit(s)
  • Monthly payments the first of the month
  • Reduced vacancy rates
  • Contact the YMHA Housing Choice Voucher Program office at 330.744.2161 for additional information or download a Landlord Packet for more detailed information.
